Audi A6 C6 EA113 Timing Chain DIY Without Engine Removal
Audi A6 C6 2.0 TFSI Timing Chain Without Removing Engine
Wondering if it's possible to replace the timing chain on a 2.0 TFSI Audi A6 C6 EA113 engine without removing the engine? The answer is yes—with a clever workaround.
🛠️ How I Did It:
While removing the oil sump (oil pan) by lowering the subframe, I noticed enough clearance to access the rear timing chain cover—avoiding full engine removal.
⚠️ Important Safety Note:
Before removing the high-pressure fuel pump, release the fuel pressure to prevent injury.
🔧 What to Address During Timing Chain Service:
- 🛠️ Replace rear gasket and vacuum pump seal to fix known oil leaks.
- 🧩 Orange plastic bits in the oil pan? That’s often a failing chain tensioner.
- ⛓️ Chain stretch over time leads to timing misalignment—replace it proactively.
- 🧼 Clean the small strainer inside the chain cover—clogs can reduce oil pressure.
- 🔧 Camshaft seal rings wear and can cause oil pressure loss or timing issues.
💡 Why It Matters:
The 2.0 TFSI EA113 engine uses hydraulic variable valve timing, which relies on correct oil pressure. Failing camshaft seals or a clogged chain cover strainer can lead to serious engine performance issues or even failure.
✅ Save time and money with this engine-in-place method.
🧰 Prevent future breakdowns with a complete timing system refresh.
