Easy DIY Transmission Oil Change – Audi A6 C6 Manual Gearbox

Even though the Audi A6 C6 owner’s manual doesn’t mention a required interval for manual transmission oil changes, replacing the gearbox oil can greatly improve longevity and shifting performance.

Curious how the old oil looks after nearly 15 years and 150,000 km? It was dark, thick, and smelled terrible — a clear sign it was overdue for a change.

🧰 Tools and Materials Needed for Audi A6 C6 Transmission Oil Change:

(Optional) Gearbox flushing additive
Syringe with a flexible hose (to remove some old oil and add the additive)
Gearbox Oil: I used ~2.6L of FUCHS TITAN SINTOFLUID 75W80 GL-4 (spec VW G 052 911) for my BPJ FWD manual gearbox. Always check compatibility before use.
Drain pan or bucket (5–10L capacity)
10mm Hex bit (for drain and fill plugs)
Torque wrench (set to 32Nm)
Funnel with flexible hose (for filling new oil)
Brake cleaner + cloth/paper towel
Gloves and safety glasses recommended

🔧 Step-by-Step: Audi A6 C6 Gearbox Oil Change DIY

In the beggining open the filler plug, you want to check this one first, if you won't be able to open it after draining oil there will be troubles!

Add Flushing Additive (optional)
Use the syringe to remove ~150ml of old oil (optional)
Add the flushing additive and reinstall the plug (optional)
Drive 5–10 km using all gears to let the additive circulate (optional)

Drain Old Gearbox Oil:

Position the pan under the drain plug
Use the 10mm Hex to remove the plug
Let oil drain fully (takes time—be patient)
Close Drain Plug
Use a new plug if available (I reused mine)
Torque it to 32Nm
Fill with New Oil
Remove the filler plug again
Use a funnel with hose to pour in oil until it flows slightly from the filler hole
Torque the filler plug to 32Nm

Final Steps

Check for leaks
Take a test drive, ensure smooth shifting and no strange noises
