Replacing the rear brake pads on an Audi A6 C6 with an Electronic Parking Brake (EPB) requires a diagnostic tool like VCDS to retract the electronic caliper pistons safely.

⚠️ Important Note on Non-VCDS Methods:

While it's technically possible to retract the EPB motor by applying 12V directly, this method is not recommended as it bypasses safety protocols. This guide will only cover the VCDS procedure.

🔧 VCDS Procedure:

  1. Connect to the car and go to Module [53] - Parking Brake.
  2. Go to [Basic Settings - 04].
  3. Select 'Start lining change mode' from the dropdown and click 'Go'. This will open the rear calipers.
  4. You can now proceed with the physical replacement of the brake pads. The caliper piston must be turned clockwise while being pushed back into the caliper.
  5. Once the new pads are installed and the caliper is reassembled, return to VCDS.
  6. Select 'End lining change mode' and click 'Go'. The calipers will close and perform a function test.
