Audi A6 C6 Front Door Sound Deadening DIY Upgrade
Want to make your Audi A6 C6 quieter and more refined? In this DIY sound deadening tutorial, I walk you through how to insulate the front doors using alubutyl mats and foam to reduce road noise and improve audio quality.
This easy mod gives your A6 a more premium feel, increases driving comfort, and enhances your speaker performance—especially in older cars.
💡Important:
Do not close / cover / clog water drains as it can cause corrosion.
🛠️ Tools & Materials I Used:
- Alubutyl mats: STP Silver 1.8mm for driver side, 2.5mm mat for passenger
- Foam sheets: 6mm and 25mm acoustic foam
- Roller (long handle) for pressing mats
- Utility knife, measuring tape
- Protective gloves (sharp metal inside the doors)
🚗 Step-by-Step Process:
- Remove the front door panel – check my video on how to do this.
- Clean the inner metal surface, degrees with e.g. isopropyl alkohol or similar
- Apply alubutyl mats to reduce vibration.
- Fill large spaces with 25mm foam (driver side). Be careful not to overstuff.
- Use 6mm foam for tighter areas (passenger side worked better this way).
- Reassemble the door panel carefully.
💡 Tips:
- Avoid over-padding — it may prevent panel from fitting.
- Use gloves – metal edges are sharp!
- Plan foam layout before sticking it in.
