EA113 Oil Pump Hack: Balance Shaft Delete
EA113 Engine Oil Pump Hack – Balance Shaft Cut Out DIY
The EA113 engine oil pump has a well-documented design flaw that can lead to sudden engine failure without warning. Instead of swapping in a 1.9 TDI or 1.8T oil pump like some do, we’re taking a direct and aggressive approach—cutting out the balance shaft from the oil pump.
🔧 Why Do This?
- Avoids catastrophic oil pump failure
- Retains your original pump housing
- Eliminates balance shaft mechanical resistance
- Increases oil system reliability
🛠️ How It’s Done:
✅ Inspired by Taco8v — Huge credit to Taco8v ( look him up on youtube!) for the original concept. Watch his detailed video on: Taco8v YouTube Channel
- Cut the balance shaft from the oil pump unit.
- Seal 3 oil channels:
Use a long screw to block 2 ports.
Use an additional screw for the third. - Adapt a 1.8T / 1.9 TDI baffle plate:
trim it for fitment.
Drill a new screw hole.
Modify intermediate plate/gasket to match your shortened pump.
Torque specs:
Oil pump screws sequence:
1. Tighten bolts hand-tight.
2. Tighten bolts to 15 Nm.
3. Turn bolts 90° further.
Chain sprocket bolt: 20 Nm + 90°
🛢️ After this mod, you’ll need approximately 1–1.5 liters more oil due to internal volume change.
