Audi A6 C6 Rear Brake Pad Replacement with Electronic Parking Brake

Replacing the rear brake pads on an Audi A6 C6 with Electronic Parking Brake (EPB) may sound tricky, but it’s totally doable with basic tools and VCDS. Even without VCDS it is possible to open electronic parking brake by applying 12V to the parking brake motor - if you don't have VCDS or similar - look it up on the internet.

🛠️ Tools & Tips:

  • Use VCDS to put the EPB into maintenance mode
  • Rear pad min thickness: 8mm | Front: 11mm
  • Turn and push the piston manually if you lack the special tool
  • Flush old brake fluid, if you're not replacing it all, it’s a good idea to at least remove some of the old, dirty fluid, as shown in the video.

🔄 Basic Steps:

  1. Turn parking brake ON and OFF
  2. In VCDS → Parking Brake → Basic Settings → "Open parking brake"
  3. Turn caliper piston clockwise, push in. After opening the electronic parking brake in VCDS, you'll still need to turn the brake caliper piston clockwise and then push it back in. If you don't have the proper tool to turn the piston, you can use a manual method, as I did.
  4. Replace pads and reassemble
  5. In VCDS: "Close parking brake" and run "Function Test". This will open and close the parking brake three times.

💡 Tip: It helps to have a second person for brake fluid bleeding—one pumps, the other opens the bleeder valve.
