The third brake light not working is a common issue in both the Avant and Limousine versions of the Audi A6 C6.

If you're handy, you can try to resolder the failing connections. I attempted to figure out what is failing but without success, so I opted to purchase a used light for replacement.

Procedure:

  1. Four metal clips secure the third brake light cover.
  2. Grasp one side with your hands and pull firmly.
  3. Detach the small two-wire connector.
  4. The light features two sliding parts on the sides - to remove the light, you must pull these to the sides.
  5. Reassemble in the reverse order. Install the new light using the two sliding parts and then connect the connector.
  6. Verify the light functions before reattaching the cover.
  7. Position the cover ensuring the four metal clips align with the holes, then press firmly with your hands.

That’s everything, drive safely!
